Sustainable and Smart Tourism in Ljubljana: These are the six key messages from stakeholders involved in the process

On Thursday, May 18, stakeholders of Ljubljana's tourism ecosystem gathered at Kavarna Moderna in Ljubljana. Turizem Ljubljana, the main organizer, collaborated with Circular Change to actively involve tourism stakeholders in the preparation of a Roadmap for sustainable and smart tourism in Ljubljana. Their goal was to gather inputs from stakeholders and establish a foundation for further collaboration, connection, and the formation of thematic groups to address sustainability issues and drive tourism development in Ljubljana.

These are the six key messages from stakeholders

  1. Stakeholders recognize the significant potential in strengthening collaboration, creating joint offerings, and sharing data and knowledge.

  2. It is crucial to involve residents and various social groups more actively in the co-creation and development of tourism in Ljubljana.

  3. Ljubljana is exceptionally well-positioned in terms of sustainability, actively embracing sustainable and green values. It boasts a rich cultural and natural heritage and a distinctive boutique character.

  4. Let's harness data in a smart manner - utilizing it for informed decision-making, targeted strategies, and monitoring sustainability indicators across all areas.

  5. Community engagement plays a vital role - fostering the establishment of living labs, nurturing and educating the local entrepreneurial ecosystem and artisans, and promoting collaboration between tourists and residents (referred to as 'Dourism').

  6. Ljubljana experiences concentrated tourist activity primarily in the city center and main destinations. Therefore, it is crucial to disperse tourism to other areas, revitalizing lesser-known locations and alleviating pressure on existing popular spots. Additionally, extending tourism to the surrounding regions should also be considered."

In conclusion, the gathering of tourism stakeholders in Ljubljana showcased a compelling vision for the future of sustainable and smart tourism. The event unveiled key messages that serve as a roadmap for an exciting sustainable transformation. Collaboration emerged as the driving force, emphasizing the power of united efforts, shared knowledge, and data-driven insights. The call for active involvement from residents and diverse social groups resonated strongly, promising a dynamic tapestry of tourism development.
