Chapter Zero Slovenia Inspires Sustainable Leadership in Ljubljana

On October 2023, the Climate Initiative Chapter Zero Slovenia hosted an event at the eco-conscious Occidental Ljubljana hotel, titled "From Crisis Management to a Systemic Approach to Sustainable Transformation." The gathering, aligned with the initiative's mission, brought together leaders and board members from Slovenian companies. Opening the event, Andrej Gnezda, Acting Director of the Directorate for Climate Policies, stressed the urgency of collaboration between the government and businesses in addressing the clear scientific warnings on climate change.

Keynote speaker Dr. Žiga Zaplotnik, a researcher from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, underscored human accountability for climate change and highlighted Slovenia's rapid warming. Discussions delved into potential consequences, including a projected 4.9-degree Celsius temperature rise by 2100.

Recognizing individual responsibility for achieving a carbon-neutral future, Meta Pezdir from Circular Change presented a tool for measuring carbon footprints - the web app PSL. Participants had the opportunity to calculate their carbon footprint and received practical tips for reducing their environmental impact.

The call for collective action and transformative thinking was echoed by panelists from Evrosad, Zavarovalnica Sava, and A1 Slovenia. The event emphasized the pivotal role of corporate leadership in driving sustainable practices and the broader societal shift towards a carbon-neutral future.
